It can be difficult to shop for an MP3 player. Why, you ask? There are simply too many choices! It is hard to know which one is best in terms of functionality or which is the best bang for your buck. Both of these factors play a role in how people choose their MP3 player nowadays. With cool features like an MP3 player with FM radio or the astounding storage capacity of a 8gb MP3 player or its little brother, the 4 gb MP3 player, consumers are faced with choices galore.

Today’s MP3 player with FM plays videos, displays photos, has FM receivers built in, and even has a camera on board. This laundry list of features is becoming standard among the typical 8 GB MP3 player, so how does one effectively choose one over another? Both the 4 GB MP3 player and the 8 GB MP3 player are most commonly priced under $150, so if price is not a major issue, how does one choose?

The remaining deciding factor is capacity. How much space are you realistically going to need for your MP3 files? If you have a lot then you will need to go with the 8 GB type. If you have less than average, a 4GB MP3 player should be sufficient for your needs. An MP3 player with FM is always a nice choice as well. The most important thing is to make sure you have enough space to store all your music, photo, and video files. After all, this is the whole point of owning an MP3 player, right?

The brand you choose is up to you as most are basically the same when it comes to general performance and looks. Apple is clearly the leader in the MP3 player market, but that doesn’t mean Apple MP3 players are the best or only choice. Companies like Sony, Zune, Creative, Archos, Latte, and others offer stylish MP3 players that don’t disappoint in the categories of audio quality and storage capacity.

It is wise to shop around for an MP3 player with FM or whatever features you deem as important. You may be surprised at the not-so-obvious options available from other brands that you didn’t consider before. These other brands (meaning not Apple) can offer a great value for what you get, whereas with Apple you are paying for the name. Apple is a status symbol, and if you don’t care about status symbols then you can get a much better deal by buying a different brand.
